Disease Overview
ESKAPE is an acronym comprising of six highly virulent and antibiotic resistant bacterial pathogens including: Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumanii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter spp. These bacteria are responsible for major majority of nosocomial infections and can ‘escape’ commonly used antibiotics due to their increasing multi-drug resistance. As a result, throughout the world, the ESKAPE pathogens are of more prominent concern in healthcare settings due to the high susceptibility of patients (elderly, young and immune compromised) to infections. WHO has categorised all these bacterial as the ‘priority pathogens’. A fast identification (ID) and antimicrobial susceptibility (AST) profiling of the ESKAPE pathogens is essential to prevent its nosocomial transmission.
Test Overview
TRUPCR® ESKAPE ID & AST Panel Kit is an in vitro nucleic acid amplification assay for the identification of highly virulent and antibiotic resistant ESKAPE pathogens (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter spp.) as well as detection & differentiation of antimicrobial resistance genes encoding resistance to antibiotics – Extended-spectrum beta-lactams (ESBLs), Carbapenems, Vancomycin and Methicillin using Real Time PCR System.
Key Features:
- Simultaneous identification of 6 ESKAPE pathogens and AST profiling targeting 11 genes with 4 different classes of antibiotics
